Buy Xiaomi electric bicycle model Emo C20 folding

After riding the Xiaomi Scooter Ninebot Pro for a while , I wanted to get something more secure and comfortable. I commute 24 km daily from home to office and back and for me my scooter has replaced public transport. Electric bicycles and electric scooters are a great alternative to public transportation, especially in times of social distancing.

First I looked at the Fiido D2 which seems to be a very popular brand. But then the Xiaomi Himo C20 electric bike caught my attention. It folds as compact as the Fiido, but the Himo looks stylish and I don't think I'll need to fold it up. (I almost never fold my electric scooter). Besides, I thought the 20-inch wheels would give me a more comfortable ride.

Xiaomi Himo C20 – What's inside the box?

The bike itself comes fully assembled and folds up inside the box. The brakes were set a little loose which I adjusted and the fenders need to be installed - if you will. Therefore, some standard tools are required for final adjustment.

Bike (folded)
2 types of fenders (plastic mud guard or aluminum full wheel cover)
Charger (in my case with EU plug)
Key (to unlock the battery from the bike)
Bike manual, charger/battery manual, warranty card

the frame

When I took my Xiaomi Himo C20 out of the box, I was excited by the high build quality, as I did not expect such a quality bike for such a low price. The frame is made of durable aluminum alloy and has maximum capacity. 100kg load Himo C20 is IPX5 waterproof rated (can withstand steady and low pressure water jet spray) The seat tube can be extended and fixed at different heights, the handle bar is not height adjustable. I'm 1.83cm tall and find the seat position very comfortable to ride in - I didn't pull the seat tube all the way out. Also, the saddle is comfortable for longer trips. A neat trick: there's an air pump built into the seat tube so you can inflate your tires while driving. You can also use the Xiaomi electric air pump with an integrated battery, but of course you have to buy them separately from Faraz Baby Store .

C20 electric bicycle folding mechanism

You can fold the Xiaomi Himo C20, but it's not a folding bike like the Fiido D2. I got it as I explained because I don't need to fold my bike into a compact size for travel or storage. Although the Hemo's folding mechanism helps save a bit of space, especially when you store it in a hallway or small office hallway. Because the handle bar swings down and the pedals can be folded, the parts that stick out the most are secured. So you don't accidentally get caught by them while passing by.

The handle bar and seat tube bolt locks feel solid and secure. The pedals can also be rotated. All this is done without any tools.

Engine and battery performance

The rear wheel houses a 250W brushless motor that accelerates up to 24km/h in all-electric mode (riding mode) and should cover 80km in assist mode / 50km in all-electric mode (I've I have not tested it). ). Good point compared to e-scooter: the motor does not limit the maximum speed. While an e-scooter slows you down before you exceed the maximum speed, this bike does not. You can go faster when pedaling or going downhill.
10 Ah battery (Li-ion 18650 battery) with power port and LED indicator is built into the frame. The amount of electricity consumption is declared as 0.72 kWh per 100 km. With a key, you can detach the battery to easily take it with you for charging. A full charge takes about 6 hours. A battery management system is said to protect against over current, over charge, short circuit and temperature. Xiaomi Himo C20 is not turned on by the button on the battery, nor by the key, but by a button on the display.
Extra batteries: Finally, extra batteries  are available in Faraz Baby House online store !

The performance of gear sets and wheels

This e-bike has a Shimano gear shifting system with 6 gears at the back and one gear at the front. The front gear is covered so your pants don't get ripped or dirty on the way to your office. The gear shift is located on the handle bar next to the bell and has a button for shifting up and a lever for shifting down.

LED and screen performance

The Xiaomi Himo C20 has a front white LED light that connects to the bike battery. It is activated via the on/off button on the display (short press while on). The red rear light, including the red reflector, is not connected to the bike's main battery. The tail light uses two AA batteries and is turned on by a button on the bottom of the light. At first I thought this was a downside, but since I don't think it's that good, I'm happy to replace it with a more stylish one with extra features. It's not attached because you can remove the seat tube with the integrated air pump and the wires will be out of place.

The screen is easy to read in bright sunlight. It holds the Himo C20's on/off button and mode switch button. It reads the current speed, trip mileage and battery status shown in the four squares on the right. With a short press of the mode button, you switch between Eco (pedal assisted), Mid and High – both fully electric modes (riding mode). By long pressing the button, the parking mode is activated. You can ride completely manually, but that way the display (and optional light) will turn on. In this case, the mileage is changed to the total mileage of the scooter.

Tires

The 20-inch Himo C20 tires are labeled "BMX Race - All-Season Compound by CST." They are 20 x 2.125 tires that require 40 to 65 psi (ie 2.8 to 4.5 bar) of pressure printed on them.

Brake performance check

The Xiaomi Himco C20 has disc brakes on the front and rear wheels. A regenerative braking system (KERS) would have been good for charging the battery from the generated braking energy. They are very loosely adjusted out of the box, so it is recommended that you adjust the steel cable before your first ride.

Conclusion

Since I just received my Xiaomi Himo C20 and have only driven it a few times, I will wait a little longer for my final and detailed conclusions and opinions. For now I am very satisfied and can recommend it. The Xiaomi Himo C20 exceeded my expectations in terms of quality and driving comfort.

The only big issue I've discovered so far is: due to legal reasons e-bikes in China have to beep frequently, when in electric mode, the C20 beeps every 5 seconds, which is very annoying while riding. Even worse, pedestrians and other cyclists will think you're honking and give you bad looks all the time. Solved: You can disconnect the wires from the speaker in the black box. See the FAQ below for more information.
I don't want to sound picky, but I'd also like to share all the minor issues I've discovered if they're interesting or important to you. The pedals feel a bit flimsy as they give in a bit, but that's due to the folding mechanism. The brakes are a bit difficult to fine tune. You have to pull the brake lever all the way, and if it's set a little too strong, they're scraping. I also would have preferred a push throttle (as found on scooters) rather than a manual throttle similar to a motor bike. Installing the fenders is a bit tricky, see the videos below for instructions.
